Travel the USA

How Did We Do It?

In August of 2018, I retired. Knowing the date was coming a year in advance, we made the decision to sell our house, our cars, and all our furniture. We purchased a truck, fifth wheel trailer, and 3 wheeled motorcycle. (Please note: we have neither RV’ed nor driven motorcycles prior to this).

I purchased a large map of the USA and started putting Post-it notes everywhere we wanted to go: people we hadn’t seen in decades, national parks, baseball venues, and whatever else struck our fancy. Then I mapped out a route that would cover a year span of time, taking us south in the winter and north in the summer.

We started out in early August, 2018, blogging as we went. During that first year, we saw 119 family and long-time friends, and drove the entire center of the country (the blue dots in the map above). Many adventures along the way, all documented here.

After two months at home for some medical care, we spent the second winter exploring the west coast (the red dots). Then COVID hit.

We decided to transition back from full-time RV life to a house, and traded our fifth wheel for a smaller class A. And yes, we took it cross-country to travel the east while the pandemic still raged.

Conscious of our own travel window, and desirous of seeing more of the world “while we can,” we have focused the last 3 years on more extended travel to Europe, Alaska and Canada. And for that portion of the adventure we added our YouTube channel.
